The 2014 Tatanka Yearbook staff took first place at Balfour Publishing’s Summer Yearbook workshop on June 20. Students from BHS took first place in writing, photography, photo editing, layout design, and overall theme presentation.

The students spent four days at the camp, held at St. John’s University in Collegeville. While preparing an outline of the 2014 yearbook that included all major components of the book, they also learned about writing, design, editing, photography, digital tools, legal issues, and managing deadlines. The student editors created the book from scratch, designing their own cover and every spread inside the book without the aid of templates or professional designers.

The next step for the group will be putting their plan into action. They’ve already begun covering the school for the 2014 book and will continue to meet throughout the summer.
