The 2019 BHS yearbook, Tatanka, earned All-American recognition from the National Scholastic Press Association. This is the third consecutive All-American ranking for the Tatanka. This is the highest award given out by the NSPA at this stage of judging, placing the book among the top yearbooks in the country. To achieve this, the Tatanka had to receive a mark of distinction in all five areas of judging – Essentials, Coverage, Writing and Editing, Design, and Photography – in addition to scores in each category that placed it among the Top 5% of all books submitted for critique.
The Editors-in-Chief for the 2019 book were Tucker MacCallum and Kenzie Myrkle. Alyssa Romportl was the Managing Editor. The theme of the 2019 yearbook was “Out of the Ordinary” in order to celebrate the way that Buffalo High School is a place where every student is valued for their unique talents, personality, and interests — where artists, athletes, and academics all feel important.
The 2020 book is looking to build on that success. The staff won Best in Show at Balfour Publishing’s Summer Yearbook Camp in June and four members of the staff recently returned from a weeklong trip to Dallas to work on the book with industry professionals and experts in design and photography.
